Bio Lab

Among the challenges facing the tanning industry, sustainability of products and processes is certainly one of the most important. The goal is to benefit the entire supply chain and the end consumer by creating value and products of absolute excellence, within an increasingly strict regulatory framework shaped by the green objectives set by the European Community.

Our Bio Lab, located in Ponte a Egola, is the first semi-industrial-scale laboratory entirely dedicated to the research, development, and industrialization of biological and sustainable processes. The facility covers approximately 400 square meters.

Leather Kem specializes in the chemical sector of the tanning industry, and this important and ambitious project has been developed in collaboration with Biodermol Ambiente and Italprogetti.

The process tested at the Bio Lab is based on a technology using non-GMO, fully biodegradable enzymes, produced entirely by our project partner Biodermol Ambiente, which has long been a point of reference in research and development of biological products for various industrial sectors. These new technologies act selectively on the hide, catalyzing specific reactions without generating polluting by-products. By avoiding chemical treatments, this innovative beamhouse process also allows for the recovery of hair and fats, enabling their reuse in higher-value applications.
